7 Dope questions on Architects and Heroes…With Peter Lord-The original Lord of song

By: Epiphany Castro

Pioneering acclaimed Songwriter/singer/producer/and founding member of the groundbreaking band The Family Stand is here… cause honestly he never actually left. He was simply doing other shyt that ya’ll may not have thought he was doing. Geniuses rarely stay in one COMPLETE lane ya know? I have found that more often than not, the truly truly gifted ones crave many things…change being one of them. This can and has been a big ol ball of confusion for some supporters because folks simply like what they like…not always having the ability to grow with the artists they have come to know and love with ease. Growing pains for not just the artist but the supporters as well. The way I see it-the gifted ones must challenge themselves. Stretching the creative muscles, developing and changing (sometimes) as not only artists but as human beings.

Peter Lord is an ever growing man. He is simple yet extraordinarily complicated. He can seem
intimidating but welcoming. He is serious but hella funny… He has a lot of things and he is also busy, Incredibly busy… Very much so and has been for the past few decades. From
developing television scripts, to writing screenplays and graphic novels, he has been in his
“Wakanda“ phase…hiding in plain sight. Never left, made no grand proclamations or blah blah blah…he simply did stuff. A lot of stuff, and of course at his very core he remains and will always be a songwriter first. So what does a Songwriter do? They write… and what happens when we just let folks be? They do what they are meant to do in the most delicious way. So here we are. He has gifted us with a new solo project that drops August 29th,2025. The first single “Boom” has landed featuring Didi Dionne. It is no fluke about that title, it is spot on in fact. It’s like cosmic serendipity. We the people crossed our collective fingers for some time now, and what did we get? “Songs from the 8th Dimension” is the title of his EP and well…it is damn near sonic perfection… So yeah, ya’ll should cop it. Why? Because it is exactly what good songwriting is..
Meaningful
Relatable
Masterful
Uncomfortable yet comfortable
Smart yet not pretentious
And of course magical…

Keeping in mind there is a place for all music and music for all places. He once told me that
he’s not trying to soothe folks with his music. I get what he means but I must disagree just a bit as I find comfort in many things and a well crafted song sends me, so…so in a way his writing does provide soothing but that’s not his goal…I believe he wants you to think. I believe he wants you to feel. I believe he wants you to LOVE… anyhoo, he has done what I believe he hadn’t given much thought to for a hot minute, a solo project crafted for himself. He did and it is outstanding to boot. A genre gumbo that few could achieve. But guess what he did? I am
hoping there may be a limited edition vinyl edition in my mailbox. His music really is the
soundtrack to what dreams may come and with any good luck-we get to dream the same dream again and again and again.

Me, being the self confessed super fan of his, I just HAD to get supa dupa hella nosey and sit and chew the fat with him. I sure did and I’d do it again too..ova and ova…This was the last in a series of conversations I had with Mr Lord over the past 6 months. I even was lucky enough to have him play and sing for me through the magic of FaceTime. Lucky me! So here is me being me chatting with the amazing Lord of Song…Peter Lord

“Fame” hmmm…

4.Musically speaking…what year was better;1996 or 1976?????
“1976 with good reason, it was the end of an era of soul/funk goodness that was
unmatched. Circa 1967 to 1979 (The absolute best years of music) because soon
thereafter came you know…Disco” and the 80’s was a horrible era for music. 1996
gets props tho cause of the neo-soul factor”
