“Silver Dollar Road,” a documentary directed by the renowned Haitian filmmaker Raoul Peck, is a poignant exploration of a family’s multi-decade struggle to preserve their land in North Carolina. As a devoted fan of Peck’s prolific career, I eagerly anticipated this film, as I am an admirer of Mr. Peck’s work, and especially since it was lensed by my dear friend, the talented cinematographer Henry Adebonojo.

Adapted from the compelling 2019 ProPublica/New Yorker article by Lizzie Presser, the documentary delves into a powerful family saga. Raoul Peck, known for “I Am Not Your Negro,” employs his signature humanistic storytelling approach to draw viewers into this heartfelt narrative.

“Silver Dollar Road” offers profound insight into the resilience of family and the enduring bond between people and their land. With captivating visuals and Peck’s storytelling prowess, this documentary is an authentic and moving portrayal of the human experience. It’s a real gem that leaves a lasting impact.
